The earliest known white settlement in the area was by the Henty Brothers who established a whaling station at Point Bunbury.
The earliest names for the settlement were “Middleton” and later “Krambruk” -
Apollo Bay is a popular tourist spot all year round. Its wide sandy beaches, safe harbour and local attractions make it ideal for holidays.

The Apollo Bay Airport provides the ideal base for sight seeing flights over the Great Ocean Road and the 12 Apostles as well as King Island.
There’s a weekly community market on the village green for locally produced goods and a monthly Farmers Market.
